Basic Web Applications with Active Server Pages @ LVS Online.com

I will be teaching a 6-week online class called Basic Web Applications with ASP at LVS Online, which will teach you the basics of creating server-side web development using Active Server Pages. This 6-week class is great for people who have some basic web experience (HTML or CSS or JavaScript) and want to know how they can develop dynamic web pages on the web server.

The class is only $25 and there are no other materials or software needed. At the beginning of each week you will get a new 8-10 page PDF document to download that covers all the topics for that lesson. At the end of each lesson I give an assignment that reviews the topics covered which I review and comment on. Students can post questions to me as well as other students in the private class forum. There are no grades since it is not a credited course, but you can receive a certificate of completion if requested.

Years ago I took a few Flash courses at LVS and was really impressed with the experience and thought it was a great way to learn a new web topic cheaply and quickly.

Even though Active Server Pages has been replaced by ASP.NET, it is still used by many companies and the process for server-side development is the same no matter what technology you use. Many of the objects in ASP are still used in the ASP.NET framework and would make the transition to a newer technology a lot easier.

Classes are run 5 times a year (January, March, May, September and November) and registration usually opens a month before classes start up again. LVS Online offers tons of web related classes (Web Design, CSS, Flash, Dreamweaver, etc.) as well as lots of other cool stuff.

To give you a better idea of some of the things you will learn each week, here is the first lesson (.pdf).

Student Assignments:

Week 1: No assignment.
Week 2: Processing Form Results
Week 3: VBScript Basics
Week 4: Redirecting the User
Week 5: More VBScript - Arrays and Loops
Week 6: Sessions and Cookies

Course Reviews:

I just want to thank you for a great course. This course gives me a chance not only to learn ASP but also to find out more about HTML and CSS that I don't know a lot. Now that I have ASP installed on my local server, I could go on learning some more about this language. You were very helpful to us and I greatly appreciate your prompt answer to every one of my questions.

Best Regards,
Lien

I have a better understanding now of some ASP scripts/programs that being used on my website, and how to create my own simple programs.

Thanks for a great class.
