FOWD Web Conference
Last month, I attended the Future of Web Design conference
in eclectic Manhattan, NY. The 1-day conference (plus a 2nd day for workshop) included speakers such as Andy Clarke, Keith Robinson, Jonathan Snook, and Jeffrey Zeldman. Apart from a few technical problems with the venue it was a great conference covering lots of interesting topics about current and "future" technologies.
One of my favorite presentations were by Brian Fling and Keith Robinson on: Inside the Designers' Studio: IMDb in which they reworked the popular movie site. The crux of the talk involved the process the two talented designers undertook in the redesign, and I always find it very interesting to see how people actually attack a project.
With a large venue and over 300 people it was interesting to see and talk to the different types of people attending. Being a somewhat shy person, I found the anonymity of being in a large group a little easier to talk to people I don't know.
Here are some of the presentations that were given (.pdf):
Building a Brand through Design - Lea Alcantara
CSS3 and What Could Be.. - Jina Bolton
Destroying The Web 2.0 Look - Elliot Stocks
Web Application Usability - Ryan Singer
Beautifying the Web with Illustration - Cindy Li
AJAX & Design - Jonathan Snook
Inside The Designer's Studio: IMDb - Ryan Sims and Keith Robinson
Community-Centered Design - Jeffrey Kalmikoff
